Home league match played on 18 October 2014.
Kicked off at 3:00 PM

The Accies put in arguably one of their best performances to date that saw every player put in a solid showing as they brushed aside Mosborough Trinity, who started the day above them in the table.

It didn’t take long for the pace of the Accies attack to worry the visiting side. Jamie won a great header that Swifty galloped onto after starting behind his defender, he rounded the keeper only to see his goal bound shot cleared off the line by the covering defender. Another fast break involved Stan and Matt G on the left who played it inside to Jamie and his deft one-two with Swifty put him in on the left side of the box; Jamie beat the keeper with his shot but it came back off the post and Swifty’s follow up was hacked clear again by the desperate defence.

The home team were giving away some soft fouls though and giving Mosborough the opportunity to pump balls into the box and put them under pressure. Mosborough took the lead as a whipped free kick was stepped over at the near post and a combination of attacked and defender bundled it pat Godwin who saw it late and had no chance despite getting a hand to it. The goal temporarily rattled the Accies who had been well on top at the time. Trinities useful attacker struck a snap shot that forced Godwin into a fine save at his near post, tipping the effort onto the bar and behind when it looked in all the way.

This galvanised the Accies and they needed to stamp some class on the game; which they did in fine fashion from 2 direct free kicks. First Ben White stepped up after Jamie was felled in the D and placed his shot across the keeper and into the left hand bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Mosborough were visibly deflated and on the next attack Swifty was clattered in a similar position and Dan Kav stepped up and curled his shot into the far bottom corner with a sweet strike. Now they were in front the Accies never looked in danger. Jamie and Ben combined and released Dan Kav into the right channel, his cut back struck the defender but he pounced on the rebound and with all the time in the world to either pick someone out or hit the target, he did neither and lofted it straight across the six yard box. Stan had time to send a fizzing shot narrowly wide before the ref blew for half time.

Half time – Accies 2 - 1 Mosborough

The next goal would be important and it was the Accies that got it within 5 minutes of the re-start. Reedy and Batts combined to clear the danger and fed Stan on the left, he found Matt G who aimed a ball at Swifty but it was intercepted by their defender who miskicked it up into the air. A backward header by their defender put Swifty in a good position but he still had loads to do; and didn’t he do it! He held off 2 markers, waited for the ball to bounce and smacked a half volley into the far corner form the edge of the box. Proper blokes goal. It completely finished Mosborough. The Accies attacked at will.

The niggling fouls started as Trinity were chasing shadows. Matt G megged his man on the left and got pulled back, Ben White wriggled past 3 or 4 challenges with their players chasing after him trying to hack him down. Stan also charged through challenges as if they weren’t there and Mosborough couldn’t get near enough to him to foul him, even though they were trying. Dan Kav was hauled back time after time as the desperation began to show in the away team.

They couldn’t prevent the 4th goal though. Stan picked out Swifty in the box with a great ball and his touch took him past the keeper and he showed quick feet to shift it past and blast it into the net. Another great goal to make it 4-1. Jamie was winning absolutely everything up front and Godwin at the other end was commanding his area masterfully. Trinity had no answer. Big Si and Jamie harried their defence and their keeper panicked and squared it to Swifty who passed it into the open net from the edge of the box.

Hodgy came on for Craig at right-back and Tommy replaced Matt G on the left. Another Accies attack gave Dan Kav a half chance at the edge of the box but the despairing lunge from the defender nicked away his goal-bound shot. The resulting corner was whipped in and Swifty did really well to adjust on the line and crash his header into the roof of the net for his 4th goal and Accies 6th. Dan went off for Bully on the right and he and Hodgy immediately combined to release Jamie and his cut back agonisingly missed everyone. Tommy took the ball from Stan on the left and beat several players with a strong run but the play didn’t quite open up as the defence were all over the place but somehow managed to hack it clear as both Jamie and Swift bent their runs.

Mosborough got an undesreved 2nd goal as the ball bounced around on the edge of the box and fell to their striker who hit a decent shot through a sea of bodies leaving Godwin no chance. Tony replaced Big Si with a few minutes to go and the game was seen out for a comprehesive win.
