In a friendly match held at the University of Ibadan on 5th September 2025, UI FC showcased their attacking prowess, defeating Soccer For All (SFA) with a resounding scoreline of 5-0. The match kicked off at 9:00 am, and it was evident from the outset that the hosts were in fine form.
SFA adopted a 3-4-2-1 formation, which aimed to provide a solid defensive base while allowing for flexibility in attack. Victor Abikoye took his position as the goalkeeper, shielded by a trio of defenders: Kester Tomiwa in the centre, flanked by David Jay-Jay on the right and Obinna Kingsley on the left. The midfield was structured with Peter Adeoti and Obaloluwa Opara operating as right and left midfielders respectively, while Abdulsomod Kolawole and Daniel Alonge occupied central roles. The attacking trio featured Emmanuel Okedigba and Ebuka Akandu as right and left attacking midfielders, supporting lone striker Akorede Obatuyi.
The substitutes for SFA included Emmanuel Osunleke, Siyanbade Adedamola, Adeola Ayandogu, Richard Adetunji, Alisigwe Ekenedilichukwu, and Ohunrere Adegbulugbe, who would be called upon as the match progressed.
The match began with UI FC taking control early on, and it was not long before they opened the scoring in the 10th minute. A well-executed move culminated in a goal that set the tone for the rest of the match. SFA struggled to respond effectively, and just 13 minutes later, UI FC doubled their lead in the 23rd minute, leaving SFA with a mountain to climb.
As the first half drew to a close, SFA found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break, needing a significant turnaround to salvage the match. However, the second half began in a similar vein, with UI FC scoring their third goal just eight minutes after the restart, in the 53rd minute.
In an attempt to change the dynamics of the game, SFA made their first substitution shortly after, bringing on Emmanuel Osunleke for Daniel Alonge in the 54th minute. Unfortunately for SFA, UI FC struck again just two minutes later, scoring their fourth goal in the 55th minute, further extending their lead and leaving SFA reeling.
SFA continued to make changes, with Abdulsomod Kolawole replacing Ebuka Akandu in the 57th minute, followed by Siyanbade Adedamola coming on for Akorede Obatuyi in the 60th minute. The substitutions aimed to inject fresh energy into the side, but UI FC remained relentless.
In the 62nd minute, SFA made another tactical switch, with Adeola Ayandogu entering the fray for Kester Tomiwa. The defensive reshuffle was necessary as SFA sought to stem the tide of goals. However, UI FC's dominance was evident, and they continued to press forward.
In the 74th minute, Richard Adetunji replaced Obinna Kingsley, as SFA looked to bolster their defensive line. The changes, however, did little to halt UI FC's momentum, and in the 76th minute, SFA made a significant change by substituting goalkeeper Victor Abikoye for Alisigwe Ekenedilichukwu.
As the match approached its conclusion, SFA made one final substitution, with Ohunrere Adegbulugbe coming on for Peter Adeoti in the 79th minute. Despite the fresh legs on the pitch, UI FC added a fifth goal in the 85th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory.
The final whistle blew, confirming a disappointing day for Soccer For All, who were unable to find their rhythm against a well-organised and clinical UI FC side. The match served as a stark reminder of the challenges ahead for SFA as they look to regroup and improve in future fixtures.
