Stoneygate Lion Juniors travelled to Kirby Muxloe Sports Club on 25 October 2026 for a 10:30am kick-off in a competitive league away fixture against Kirby Muxloe U15 Knights. The 70-minute contest, played 11 aside, ended in a thrilling 3-2 victory for Stoneygate Lion Juniors after a spirited comeback.

Stoneygate Lion Juniors lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, deploying Neo Routledge in goal. The defensive line consisted of Theo Sebastian at right back, Alfie Roberts and Priyan Purshottam as central defenders, and Hamza Mukadam on the left. Across midfield, Oscar Pickering operated on the right wing, Fraser Knight and Isaac Liburd occupied the central midfield roles, while Alfie Oldman took up the left midfield position. Kabir Sian played just behind the lone striker, Cruz Harper, tasked with leading the attack. This setup was designed to provide defensive solidity with four at the back, midfield width and support for the striker through the attacking midfielder. The substitutes available were Javyn Purewal, Veer Purshottam, Dylan Atkins, and Owen Hopkins.

The match got off to a nightmare start for Stoneygate as Kirby Muxloe took the lead inside the opening minute. A close-range finish with the right foot from inside the box gave the home side an early advantage. Stoneygate responded by making two tactical substitutions in the 18th minute, bringing on Javyn Purewal and Veer Purshottam for Alfie Oldman and Isaac Liburd respectively, signalling a shift in approach to regain control.

Despite the early setback, Kirby Muxloe doubled their lead in the 33rd minute with another close-range right-footed strike from inside the box, putting Stoneygate under significant pressure. The first half concluded at the 35-minute mark with the visitors trailing 2-0.

Shortly after the break, Stoneygate made further tactical changes at the 38th minute, introducing Dylan Atkins for Oscar Pickering and reinstating Isaac Liburd in place of Cruz Harper. These moves aimed to inject fresh energy and creativity into the midfield and attack.

Stoneygate’s revival began swiftly as Alfie Roberts pulled a goal back in the 42nd minute with a powerful right-footed strike from outside the box, expertly curled into the net from a free kick. The momentum swung further in Stoneygate’s favour just a minute later when Isaac Liburd scored from close range inside the box, also with his right foot, levelling the score at 2-2.

Early in the second half, at the 48th minute, Owen Hopkins replaced Kabir Sian in another tactical substitution designed to bolster the attacking options. Then, in the 61st minute, Alfie Oldman returned to the field, replacing Javyn Purewal, as Stoneygate continued to shuffle their lineup in pursuit of a winner.

The decisive moment arrived in the 62nd minute when Isaac Liburd headed home a close-range finish, assisted by a short pass from Owen Hopkins. This header proved to be the match-winning goal, completing Stoneygate’s remarkable comeback and securing a 3-2 victory.

Stoneygate Lion Juniors demonstrated resilience and tactical flexibility to overturn a two-goal deficit against Kirby Muxloe U15 Knights. Their 4-4-1-1 formation allowed for defensive stability and attacking support, which was crucial in the second half surge. The substitutions played a pivotal role in turning the tide, with Isaac Liburd’s brace and Roberts’ free-kick goal standing out as key contributions. This hard-fought win on the road will boost Stoneygate’s confidence as they progress through the league campaign.
