On 1st November 2026, Stoneygate Lion Juniors hosted Studs Junior U15 at the Stoneygate Lions U13 Juniors ground in a 70-minute cup match kicking off at 10:30am. Despite an early burst of goals from Stoneygate, the visitors ultimately triumphed 4-2 in a contest that saw momentum swing dramatically after the opening exchanges.

Stoneygate Lion Juniors lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, deploying Neo Routledge in goal behind a defensive line of Theo Sebastian at right back, central defenders Alfie Roberts and Priyan Purshottam, and Hamza Mukadam at left back. The midfield four consisted of Oscar Pickering on the right, Isaac Liburd and Fraser Knight centrally, and Alfie Oldman on the left. Kabir Sian operated just behind lone striker Will Neilson, tasked with leading the line. This formation aimed to provide a solid defensive base with width and creativity in midfield, while Kabir’s role as attacking midfielder was to link play and support Neilson’s goal-scoring efforts. The substitutes available were Javyn Purewal, Dylan Atkins, Cruz Harper, Veer Purshottam, and Harvyn Purewal.

The match burst into life immediately as Stoneygate stunned the home crowd with a double goal in the opening minute. Will Neilson opened the scoring after a clever flick assist from substitute Javyn Purewal, slotting the ball home with his left foot from close range inside the box. Remarkably, Neilson struck again seconds later, this time finishing from a long pass by central defender Alfie Roberts with his right foot, doubling the lead before the game had barely begun.

However, Studs Junior U15 responded swiftly, pulling a goal back in the seventh minute with a powerful left-footed strike from outside the box that flew past Routledge. This long-range effort injected belief into the visitors and set the tone for a fiercely contested encounter.

Stoneygate’s early momentum was disrupted in the 13th minute when Alfie Oldman was forced off injured, replaced by Javyn Purewal. The game remained tight until half-time, but the visitors began to assert more control as the first half drew to a close.

At the interval, the score stood at 2-1, but the second half saw a flurry of substitutions from Stoneygate’s bench as tactical changes were made. Immediately after the break, four substitutions were introduced: Dylan Atkins replaced Oscar Pickering, Cruz Harper came on for Kabir Sian, Veer Purshottam took over from Isaac Liburd, and Harvyn Purewal replaced Hamza Mukadam. These changes indicated a shift in approach, perhaps aiming to regain midfield control and defensive solidity.

Yet, the visitors capitalised on the disruption. In the 36th minute, Studs Junior U15 equalised with a close-range left-footed finish inside the box. They then took the lead just before half-time, scoring again from close range with a right-footed strike in the 45th minute.

Stoneygate made another tactical substitution at the 45th minute mark, bringing Alfie Oldman back on for Javyn Purewal, signalling an attempt to restore attacking impetus. Later, in the 55th minute, Isaac Liburd returned to the field replacing Theo Sebastian, further tweaking the side’s shape.

Despite these efforts, Studs Junior U15 extended their advantage in the 61st minute with a close-range left-footed goal inside the box, making it 4-2 and putting the game beyond Stoneygate’s reach.

Throughout the match, Fraser Knight was a standout performer in central midfield, driving the team forward and providing energy and composure amid the challenging circumstances.

In the end, Stoneygate Lion Juniors were unable to maintain their early lead, succumbing 4-2 to a resilient and clinical Studs Junior U15 side in this cup fixture. The visitors’ ability to respond quickly and capitalise on tactical changes proved decisive in overturning the initial deficit.
