Stapleton Arms vs The Red Lion FC

Game started off and we had all the possession and play and were guilty of missing chances early on.

Against the run of play Stapleton Arms scored from a set-piece, the response was brilliant though and after a great run from left back by Mcpherson he slotted the ball home to equalise.

We then got a foothold in the game by scoring next with a well crafted goal finished off by Morley, to take the score 2-1 and again stay on top until a foul on the edge of our area lead to a set-piece which again we didn’t deal with and ended up going in at the break level at 2-2.

The 2nd half started brightly for us again but after the 70 minute mark Stapleton Arms took the lead to 3-2 after a fantastic last ditch tackle by Wasco should have been awarded as a goal-kick, the ref who was a joke throughout this game though awarded a corner and yet again we conceded from a set-piece, this instantly made us look a beaten team, the amount of missed chances and the tempo we played at soon took its toll with no subs to bring on we all looked like we couldn’t wait for the whistle to blow. Soon after that to make things worse a clearly offside goal was allowed to stand for Stapleton Arms who it has to be said took full advantage of our weaknesses (mainly in the shape of the referee), but when we've conceded 8 goals in our first 2 games and only had 2 goals scored past us from open play we need to start sorting ourselves out, we know where the problems lie so lets start putting them right.

Thats 2 games on the bounce we've had no real options on the bench and looked tired and slow to react, we should not have lost this game its as simple as that. We are in for long and troublesome season if things aren’t turned round quickly and some more effort, thought commitment and work is put in. We are capable of at least getting beat and walking off feeling like we've put in a shift and having some sort of pride but the way we've lost the last two games has been a joke we've beat ourselves and you cant expect to win any games when you have to score 4 just to gain a point.

We need to have more confidence in what we are capable of as both a team and as individuals I’m sure a win and some fitness is all that’s needed to turn this around, we have some fantastic players in our team and who can beat anyone they come up against in this league, if we have a little more belief and get the patter back on track as a team we'll start being a little more clinical and have more of a positive score line in the games where we have the chances and possession.
