Away league match played on 27 October 2013.
Kicked off at 12:00 PM

A very windy day saw the Wolves pushing for a 7th consecutive league win for the first time in their history.

Corby attacked downhill with the wind behind them in the first half and looked dangerous coming forward, keeping William and Sam stretched at the back. A good clearance from William put Ollie and Jacob away in midfield and after a couple of good passes Jacob had a shot that was well saved by the Keeper. Immediately afterwards Cole saved well after slipping.

Corby attacked cleverly with good shape and were giving our defenders a torrid time at the back but the Wolves were first on the scoresheet with a great goal from Dylan. He broke up the right wing, moved to the front of the penalty area and placed his shot calmly beyond the Keeper: 0-1

A minute later and the excellent Corby Number 12 did exactly the same; she surged down the right wing, leaving a trail of floundering Wolves’ defenders and fired an unstoppable shot past Cole from outside the area: 1-1

A couple of minutes later and the Wolves were back in front. Dylan and Ollie won the ball in the Corby half and as the Keeper rushed out Dylan placed his shot well: 1-2

The rest of the half was fairly even. The Wolves defence struggled to get the ball clear and Corby had several chances to equalise. Dylan had a shot saved after Jacob got the ball off their Number 12 and then Jacob had a shot blocked by a defender on the line.

William, Tom and Nathan worked hard to nullify the attacks by the Number 12 but she managed a shot over the bar. In the final seconds of the half Tom raced across the pitch to keep the ball in and put in a super long pass upfield to Ollie who then passed to Jacob who slipped when trying to turn and shoot.

 Half time: 1-2

The second half started in the same vein as the first. Nathan did well to stop one break by Corby but three minutes into the half Corby equalised after the Number 12 got past all of our defenders to score a very good goal: 2-2

Dylan had a shot saved as the Wolves pushed forward and Nathan put a chance wide after being put clear by Jacob. Tom, William and Sam were being kept very busy by the marauding Number 12 and some good positioning by the Corby front players.

With only ten minutes left to play the Wolves had wasted a few good opportunities while Corby were still looking dangerous and I was getting a bit worried. However, Jacob again put Nathan clear with a great pass but as he got round the Keeper to shoot he was cynically pushed – penalty. Dylan stepped up and kept it low to give their Keeper no chance: 2-3

The goal seemed to galvanise the Wolves. Jacob put a good chance from a fantastic cross wide. Dylan had a shot blocked and Jacob had a great header go wide. With five minutes to go Corby tired with the slope and wind against them. Ollie got the fourth after a Dylan shot came back to him off the cross bar: 2-4. Two minutes later Ollie got his second after a great passing move with Dylan: 2-5. Just a minute later Sam got in on the action after Dylan took the ball deep into the box and crossed perfectly for him to tap home: 2-6.

In the final few seconds Ollie picked up the ball and passed forward to Nathan as he ran into the box. The Keeper came out for the ball but took his eyes off it under pressure from Nathan and the ball trickled through his legs: 2-7

The Wolves eventually came good and with more composure could have scored more. Corby gave the defence a really good work out and played better than the scoreline suggested. A good, determined performance by the boys – well done all.
