Tough game against Partington WMC

First game of the season

New kit, new training tops, new pitch and some bitter word coming from other teams about us all making us ready and raring to get  the season off and running to a good start.

Pictures to follow

The game started with us playing a 3,5,2 formation following on from some good performances in pre season. Within the first 5 minutes of the game Adam Ball was put through with an excellent lofted pass from Connor Beard which he struggled to finish. Unsure of whether to kick or head it in the net he decided to do neither and just chest it to the keeper.

15mins into the game, some really good possession led us to another chance. It fell again to Adam Ball, 1V1 with the keeper, he dropped his shoulder to take him on, pushed the ball a little too far to the right causing himself a tight angle to finish. Unfortunately there was some good tracking back for Partington and they cleared the ball before it hit the back of the net.

Partington were playing the long ball up to the centre forwards all game, and in the 38thmin this tactic paid off. A flick on from 1 attacker led Matt Jones and the other CF Battling it out. With the pure strength of Matt J he found himself in front of the CF and facing his own goal. Unfortunately his kick let him down as he sliced the ball and it ended up dropping just at the CF feet. Even Greg Fenwick who was having a very good game couldn’t stop the shot..... 0 – 1 to Partington.

Half time and the team talk was all about us keeping the pressure on. We were getting into the chances but just finding it hard to get the final shot off.

In the second half the game started to get a little scrappy, but with some good play down the left hand side and Jay W taking on his first player in 5 years found himself diving in the box. PENALTY and after Adam Ball’s last two chances he wasn’t going to miss this....... 1 – 1

Nothing much happened in the game from then on. Some poor misplaced passes from both teams and the 3,5,2 formation went out of the window. However we still got a point, a point that could have been 3 if we had believed in ourselves a little more.

Thank you to the lads that didn’t make the squad, It was very encouraging to see many of you still came down to support the team.

Lets believe in ourselves and focus on getting a win next week against the Pelican.
