Chainwire 1 v 3 TS UNITS FC

The UNITS got their division one campaign off to a decent start winning 3-1 away at Chainwire but it really should have been a lot more
On an good surface and wide pitch we lined up 442 with 5 UNITS making their first official appearance in our squad
Mala, Chinner, Brownie, Kie, Eggy, Ashton, Baker, Coco, Jay, Hunter & Pountney
Bench was Turner, Ross, Ginge, Raddish & Keith

The UNITS started on the front foot and were asking the questions, Chainwire were happy to sit deep & play on the break. Hunter & Pountney both had early shots saved before we took the lead with a freak goal. Pountney manged to get his head to a cross field pass from a Chainwire player the ball looping up in the air and over the back peddling keeper into the net!
Coco was the next to threaten, two clear attempts at goal, one saved and one sliced wide when put in well by the excellent Hunter
However we shot ourselves in the foot on 20 minutes when Chinner was sloppy in possession and Chainwire scrambled home an equaliser from close range
Pountney then had a shot tipped over then Brownie found Pountney with a superb ball and the keeper made a world class save low down to his right however from the resulting corner Ashton picked up the half cleared ball, whipped in a great cross and Hunter bulleted a header home from 10 yards to put us 2-1 up

HT Chainwire 1 v 2 TS UNITS

Cuzer told the boys to relax a little and play more at HT as we were a little hurried and our decision making int the final 3rd was preventing us from putting the game to bed

The 2nd half started again as all UNITS, Kie up from the back twice had shots blocked on the line from corners, Ginge made his debut replacing Poutney on 55 and he fired wide when put through as the elusive 3rd goal wouldn't come

Hunter then got a shocking elbow in the face which the referee claimed he didn't see despite looking straight at the incident and then with emotions running high the game got edgy for 15 mnutes which gave Chainwire their best spell

Despite all our attempts on goal we were indebted to Eggy who did superbly to clear off the line as their midfielder got to a through ball ahead of Mala

Keith came on for Brownie with Chinner moving to left back before our 3rd goal eventually came when Jay scrambled home from a corner after two shots were blocked

Ross then replaced Jay and the last 15 minutes we missed a hatfull, Ginge having one cleared off the line and missing a volley with the goal gaping, Ashton firing inches over, Hunter scoring a great header only for a very dubious flag to be raised and Coco having a one on one blocked by the impressive Chainwire keeper

So, off to a good start, we've played a lot better than this in our pre-season games but we'll take the points and up next is a strong looking Taverners side who start the season with 2 wins out of 2

Man of the match went to Kie Harris who was excellent on his full debut
