Witham welcomed tough opponents in Zizou FC. Some good work by Clark prior to the game in moving the goal posts ensured Witham's game went ahead and he still started on the bench!
Witham nearly got off to a flying start within 30 seconds when Yeo got in front of his man and played the ball into the path of Orr who was in on goal but his shot went past the post. Zizou then had a good run of possession and dominated the play but on 8 minutes Yeo gave Galacticos the lead when his side foot shot from just over 20 yards flew into the bottom corner. Zizou come straight back into the game and nearly equalised straight after when a header inside the box just went over the bar. In there next attack it was one apiece when the right winger found space and delivered a cross that found the striker inside the box and his clever header went over Cannock. Witham began to rally and Orr and Humphry put in some great tackles that helped break up the midfield that was clearly being dominated by the opposition. On 24 minutes a poor goal kick found Orr and he played the ball out left to Yeo who still had alot of work to do but he rifled in a left foot shot into the top corner. On the half hour mark Yeo grabbed his hat trick when he beat his man to slide home from 4 yards after another good delivery by Orr. 2 minutes later Humphry won the ball in the middle of the park and found Yeo who from just over 20 yards out smashed the ball home to get his 4th goal in the game all within 32 minutes. A minute later Orr scored a superb effort from over 30 yards out when his volley first time flew into the corner of the net after Vicarage's neatly cushioned header. Lawes who was also putting in an impressive display nearly got on the scoresheet when his curling 30 yard effort hit the bar. Cannock was then called upon when he made a superb point blank save on the edge of his 18 yard box. The first half drama didnt end there...Witham who were 5 - 1 up and only had such a large lead due to some clinical finishing were pegged back. Zizou amazingly scored 3 goals between the 42nd and 45th minute to reduce the deficit to one goal and from nowhere went in at half time full of confidence

Zizou returned to the field of play within minutes knowing they needed to keep up the high pressure but Witham's defence looked strong with Ahern leading the line well with strong support from Stoneham, Whipps and Jackson. Zizou again dominated possession throughout but some of the energy come out of there game and the half become more like a game of chess. Jackson come close to extending Witham's lead when he found himself free 12 yards out but his left footed effort went wide of the mark. Witham introduced Clark and Holder and they added some strength and determination to Witham's game. Zizou come close to an equaliser from a corner but a scramble in the box was cleared eventually by Holder. Yeo nearly snatched his 5th in the final minutes but his attempt went over the bar as he slid in to beat the keeper. Zizou threw everything at Witham in the dying minutes but held on comfortably with Ahern and Clark at the spine of it

Wow that game wasnt for the faint hearted, against the run of play we score 5 superb goals to then concede 3 in the final 3 minutes of the half. Then again we showed brilliant spirit and determination to hold on to our lead and give them nothing in the second half. Performance wise it wasnt our best but in terms of attitude and mental strength it was our best. Ahern again put in a superb display and Clark's experience in the final 35 minutes was a big help. Going forward Lawes, Orr and Yeo linked up well and finished with some superb goals to there names. Man of the match goes to our captain Yeo who scored 4 excellent goals. We are top of the league and Christmas number ones by a tight margin of about 15 points! : )
Overall 2014 has been a superb year for us and lets finish off next year with a championship win and a good cup run which will be alot of our focus at the start of the year.
