The Young Stars hosted Hotstars FC at Rheenendal on 21 March 2026, with kick-off at 3:30pm in a keenly contested league fixture. Despite a spirited performance, the Young Stars were edged out 2-1 in front of their home crowd after 90 minutes plus added time.

The Young Stars lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking flair. Jerome Boukers took his place in goal, protected by a back four comprising Kyle at right back, Zop and Arzi as central defenders, and Boettie on the left flank. Xavior Stukkies operated as the lone defensive midfielder, tasked with shielding the defence and distributing the ball forward. Ahead of him, the midfield quartet featured Marcus Malgas on the right wing, Rushine Davids and Kiembie centrally as attacking midfielders, and Seuna on the left wing. Leading the line was striker Ivandre Haaland, expected to spearhead the attack and convert chances. On the bench were Gavin, Algin Kleynhans, Chip Calwick, and Maydie, ready to provide tactical options as the match unfolded.

The game began with both sides probing cautiously, but it was Hotstars FC who struck first, breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute. Their goal unsettled the Young Stars, who struggled to find rhythm in the opening half. The visitors’ physicality was evident when one of their players received a yellow card for a bad tackle in the 37th minute, a warning that the referee Charles was closely monitoring the match’s intensity.

As the first half drew to a close, the Young Stars made a tactical substitution at the 45th minute mark, replacing Seuna with Gavin in an attempt to inject fresh energy down the left flank. The teams went into the break with Hotstars FC holding a slender 1-0 lead.

The second half saw Hotstars FC extend their advantage from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, with a composed left-footed finish that doubled their lead. The Young Stars responded swiftly with a tactical change two minutes later, bringing on Algin Kleynhans for Marcus Malgas to bolster midfield creativity and regain control.

Their efforts paid off in the 67th minute when Xavior Stukkies, operating just in front of the defence, made a decisive run into the box and scored a well-taken goal to reduce the deficit. This strike reignited hope for the home side and sparked a more attacking approach.

Further tactical substitutions followed as Chip Calwick replaced Boettie at left back in the 72nd minute, aiming to strengthen defensive resilience while maintaining attacking support. Shortly after, Maydie came on for Ivandre Haaland in the 75th minute, signalling a shift to a more dynamic forward line in search of an equaliser.

Despite these changes and increased pressure, the Young Stars were unable to find the net again. Hotstars FC held firm to secure a 2-1 victory, leaving the home side to rue missed opportunities and defensive lapses that proved costly.

Referee Charles managed the match with authority, keeping control amid the physical exchanges and tactical battles. The Young Stars showed glimpses of promise, particularly through Stukkies’ goal and midfield efforts, but ultimately fell short against a clinical Hotstars FC side on the day.
