Young Stars hosted Young Blood at Rheenendal on 7 March 2026 in a league home match kicking off at 4:00pm. The contest ended 2-1 in favour of Young Blood after a closely fought 90 minutes plus added time.

Young Stars lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, deploying Jerome Boukers in goal behind a back four of Kyle at right back, Zop and Arzi as central defenders, and Boettie on the left. The midfield double pivot consisted of Lizzy and Rushine Davids, tasked with both shielding the defence and linking play forward. Ahead of them, Marcus Malgas operated on the right wing, Xavior Stukkies played centrally as the attacking midfielder, and Smiley Siyonela took up the left attacking midfield role. Leading the line was Ivandre Haaland as the lone striker, expected to spearhead attacks and hold up the ball. The substitutes named were Seuna, Kiembie, Sout Lesley, and Chip Calwick.

The match began with both sides probing cautiously, but it was Young Blood who struck first in the 31st minute to take the lead. The goal came against the run of play, unsettling Young Stars as they sought to respond before half time.

Just before the break, a tactical substitution saw Seuna replace Kyle at right back in the 45th minute, signalling a shift in approach for the second half. The interval arrived with Young Stars trailing 0-1.

The second half resumed with immediate changes as Seuna came on again for Kyle at the restart, this time officially recorded at 46 minutes, alongside Kiembie replacing Xavior Stukkies in midfield. These moves aimed to inject fresh energy and creativity into the side.

However, Young Blood doubled their advantage shortly after the restart in the 50th minute. The goal resulted from a defensive mistake by Young Stars, with the opposition capitalising to score with a right-footed finish. This setback intensified the challenge for the hosts.

Young Stars responded with determination and pulled a goal back in the 58th minute through substitute Kiembie, who made an instant impact after coming on. His goal reignited hope and set up a tense final half-hour.

Further tactical substitutions followed as Sout Lesley replaced Lizzy in midfield at 68 minutes, and later Chip Calwick came on for Marcus Malgas on the right wing in the 75th minute. These changes reflected Young Stars’ intent to chase an equaliser.

Despite their efforts and increased pressure, Young Stars were unable to find a second goal. Young Blood’s resilience and organisation saw them hold on to their lead until the final whistle, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Rheenendal.

The match showcased tactical adjustments and moments of individual quality, but ultimately it was Young Blood who capitalised on key opportunities to claim all three points. Young Stars will look to build on the positives from their substitutes’ contributions as they prepare for their next fixture.
