Bologna Football Club 1909, commonly referred to as Bologna, is an Italian professional football club based in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna that plays in Serie A, the top flight of Italian football. The club have won seven top-flight titles, two Coppa Italia titles, and one UEFA Intertoto Cup.
History
Bologna was founded on 3 October 1909 by a group of students and athletes. The club's first president was Carlo Sandoni, and its first coach was Swiss Louis Rauch. Bologna won their first Serie A title in 1924-25, and went on to win six more titles in the 1930s. The club's most successful period was in the late 1930s, when they won five consecutive Serie A titles.
Bologna's last Serie A title came in 1964. The club has since struggled to maintain its former success, and has spent several seasons in Serie B. However, Bologna has always been a popular club in Italy, and has a large and passionate fan base.
Recent seasons
Bologna finished 12th in Serie A in the 2021-22 season. The club's most recent major trophy win was the Coppa Italia in 1973-74.
