CD Canela was founded in 1974 by a group of local footballers. They started playing in the lowest levels of the Spanish football pyramid, and gradually worked their way up. In 2019, they achieved promotion to the Primera Andaluza for the first time.
The club's home ground is the Estadio Municipal de Ayamonte, which has a capacity of 2,000 spectators. Their most famous player is José Antonio Pérez, who played for the club in the 1980s.
