Cerezo Lynx FC was founded in 2009 by a group of businessmen from Ipoh. The club's name is a combination of the Cerezo Osaka football club of Japan and the Lynx, a type of wildcat.
The club's first season in the Malaysia Premier League was in 2010. They finished the season in 10th place.
In 2011, Cerezo Lynx FC won the Malaysia Premier League and were promoted to the Malaysia Super League, the top tier of Malaysian football.
The club's best finish in the Malaysia Super League came in 2013, when they finished in fourth place.
