More about the team

Claverdon's Saturday Side used to be an established team in the Stratford Football Alliance League until the team folded in 2003, due to lack of youth players. Courtesy of Charlie Waterworth and Kristian Roberts the team was re-established in 2007. Old players from the Saturday side, such as Neil Peace, Richard Beddow, Tony Andrews and Keith Hambleton returned to play for the newly named 'Claverdon AFC'.

The team started the 2007/8 brightly with two back to back 3-2 win over rivals Blockley and Quinton. Claverdon were the surprise package to the Culter Division as they remained unbeaten until early December, where they suffered they first defeat to local rivals Henley. Claverdon finished the 2007/8 campaign in 6th place which was respectably considering it was their first season together. Ben Waterworth was named Players' Player of the Year and Captain Kris Roberts was presented with the Managers' Player of the Year. Scott Whale capped off an excellent season for Claverdon, where he scored 22 goals in 20 games, to receive the Top Goalscorer Award.

For the 2008/9 campaign, Kristian Roberts was re-elected Claverdon's Captain with Alex Chapman and Scoot Whale becoming the team's Vice-Captains.

Throughout the summer months, Claverdon trained hard for the up-coming 2008/9 season. New faces joined the side, such as, Ian Houghton, Henry Eddy, Neil Muller and Mike Crooks. Claverdon reaped the rewards of the months of training through good performances which enabled them to remain unbeaten until late January. New addition, Mike Crooks stole the show last season, scoring 19 goals in 18 league appearances.

Claverdon famously beat Division one side, Seven Stars with Keith Hambleton making a memorable performance. The final score finished 4-3 with goals from Liam Duffy (2), Matt Underwood and Mike Crooks but the score line could have easily gone the other way. Keith Hambleton continually thwarted and frustrated Seven Stars and received the Man of the Match after the game.

The 09/10 and 10/11 seasons were spent in league 2 following our promotion finishing second to Alcester Town. These 2 seasons proved difficult for Claverdon as results and performances weren't going their way in the 10/11 season clav finished bottom of the league.

The Stratford alliance football leagues have restructured and there are now 4 leagues, Claverdon will start there season (with a new manager) in league Three. As Manger Charlie Waterworth has moved to America to become Head Youth Coach at Chicago Fire, our very own Jon White has taken the reigns as Player/Manager of Claverdon AFC

Jon has brought with him some very good players which has improved our squad not only in quality but also in size, with 27 players signed on for the season (and still counting) the new season is looking promising.
