Torino Football Club

Torino Football Club (Italian pronunciation: [to'ri?no]), commonly referred to as Torino or simply Toro, is an Italian professional football club based in Turin. They currently play in Serie A.

The club was founded in 1906, by merging Football Club Torinese and a dissatisfied group of Juventus dissidents.

  • Torino won their first Scudetto in 1927, but the trophy was taken away due to an alleged fraud during the Turin derby.
  • The club won the first Coppa Italia tournament ever held, in 1936.
  • Torino's most successful era came in the 1940s, when they won five successive Scudettos and a single Coppa Italia trophy between 1942 and 1949.
  • The team, led by captain Valentino Mazzola, was known as "Il Grande Torino" and was one of the best teams in the world at the time.
  • The team's dominance was cut short in 1949, when the entire team was killed in a plane crash.
