More about the team

Crossblades FC (EST 2010)

Formed in the summer of 2010 by David Adams and Carl Gilbert, Crossblades FC is a Devizes based team of friends plying their trade in the Chippenham & District Sunday Football League Division 4.

Carl Gilbert - Founder David Adams - Founder

David and Carl realised that with so many of their friends interested in Football, they needed to formalise some kind of team and some kind of structure to play some competative football. With many of these players competing in a local 5 aside league, they sought to bring together a squad and enter the Chippenham & District Football League. Carl and David gave up a lot of time to enter Crossblades in to the league and once all the arduous paperwork was completed, attended a selection meeting in which they presented our case for admittance. Through their hard work and endeavour, Crossblades were accepted in to the league.

With little experience of 11 aside football and a passion for the game, Crossblades FC were entered in to Division 4 for the 2010-11 season with a squad of 18 players. Playing out of All Cannings on a pitch with numerous faults, Crossblades enjoyed their first season of competative Football despite finishing bottom of the division. With a settled squad and a great atmosphere it took time for them to settle down and get used to the style (or lack of) of Sunday League Football.

Despite finishing bottom of division 4 with frequent heavy losses, Crossblades always made light of their situation, generally based around the 'joker' of the team Mark Owen.

Tim Chilton - Captain Mark Owen - Physio/Joker/Gangster

Mid-season a change in personnel at the club was made, with Tim Chilton taking over as the Secretary and Captain and James Squire acquiring the Managers role. As the team grew to understanding one anothers styles and abilities, Crossblades results began to improve with their first win a 4-2 victory against Bremhill View Boys. Wins agaisnt Spartans and Lyneham and 2 credible draws against both Lyneham and Somerford gave Crossblades a strong finish to the season, yet it wasn't quite enough to lift Crossblades off the bottom of division 4.

James Squire - Manager Tim Chilton - Secretary/Captain

The first season in competative football was a resounding success, never struggling for players and never losing either faith or optimism Crossblades are very much looking forward to their second season, one in which they both hope and believe they can improve on.
