More about the team

When It all Began.........................

History About us Dawlish United, Youth & mini Soccer FC is a voluntary organisation providing football for the youth and adults of Dawlish and the surrounding area’s. The Club was formed in 1997 as a junior section to Dawlish Generals. Indeed until 2006 our over 16 years old players used to move up into adult football in a third team at Dawlish Town specifically negotiated for them. Unfortunately that avenue closed and for two years these youngsters had no natural progression and drifted out of Football. So in 2009 Steve Clarke started our own adult side. We now run fourteen teams, which includes under 7’s to under 18’s, one girls team and three adult sides. Hence our long name :- Dawlish United, Youth & Mini Soccer FC. ( DUY&MSFC or Dawlish United.) No one in the Club receives any form of remuneration or expenses. We run the club on a committee basis, which gives everyone involved a fair say, we meet every month on the second Sunday at 7pm. Our football is played mainly on the council owned pitches at the top of Sandy Lane. Although in 2012 we obtained the lease for the former Dawlish Town main pitch and club house. ( Which is now a Community Sports Club.) Youth & mini soccer was & remains the reason for our beginnings in 1997. Occasionally parent expectations, a managers desire for success (whatever that may be) and club ethos do not dovetail, in response to this conundrum see ‘Club Playing Policy’ on our website www.dawlishunited.co.uk under documents. Q Do you host ladies/girls football? Way back in 1997 Hannah Pattle played for us at U.8 and continued until league football, stopping only because of the lack of female changing facilities. A number of other girls have done similar such as Bow Jackson ( who now assists in boys coaching.) Our first girls teams were formed probably around 2008 by Steve Clarke and Nick Wilkie. Nikita Scholes then ran the side for several years , helped by Nicky Lipscombe who as one of our past players and is the goalkeeper for Plymouth Argyle and is in the England U.18 squad. Due a lack of players we have to combine age groups which proves a challenge for the current Manager Matt Hodgson for the under 12’s age group.
