FC United was formed in 2008 by fans of Newcastle United who were unhappy with the way the club was being run by Mike Ashley. The club's first game was against Gateshead in a friendly match in July 2008. FC United joined the Northern Premier League Division One North in 2009, and they won the league in their first season. The club has since been promoted to the Northern Premier League Premier Division, and they are currently competing in the Northern Football Alliance League.
