Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü (Turkish pronunciation: [fe'næ?baht?e], meaning Fenerbahçe Sports Club), commonly known as Fenerbahçe or simply Fener, is a major Turkish professional multi-sport club based in the Kadiköy district of Istanbul, Turkey. Fenerbahçe is parent to a number of different competitive departments including football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, athletics, swimming, sailing, boxing, rowing, and eSports, which have won numerous European and domestic titles over the club's history.

The football department is the most successful of all Fenerbahçe's departments, having won the Turkish Super League a record 28 times, the Turkish Cup 19 times, and the Turkish Super Cup 9 times. Fenerbahçe have also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League on three occasions.

History

Fenerbahçe was founded on 1907 by a group of young men in Kadiköy, Istanbul. The club's name comes from the Fenerbahçe neighborhood, which is located on the Asian side of the city.

Fenerbahçe quickly became one of the most successful clubs in Turkey, winning their first Turkish championship in 1909. The club has since gone on to win a total of 28 Turkish championships, more than any other club.

Fenerbahçe have also had success in European competition. The club reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 1996-97, 2007-08, and 2012-13.
