Gartcairn Amatuers were founded in 2011 by a group of fans of Airdrieonians Football Club. The club initially played in the Airdrie & Coatbridge Amateur Football League, but they moved to the SSFL in 2016.

Gartcairn Amatuers have won the SSFL Premier Division twice, in 2018 and 2022. They have also reached the final of the SSFL League Cup on three occasions.
