Mhxanikoi Football Club is a Greek professional football club based in the Athens suburb of Nea Ionia. The club was founded in 1928 and currently competes in the Super League Greece, the top tier of Greek football.
History
Mhxanikoi was founded in 1928 by a group of workers from the area of Nea Ionia. The club's name means "mechanics" in Greek. Mhxanikoi played in the lower divisions of Greek football until the 1970s, when they began to achieve success. In 1977, the club won promotion to the Alpha Ethniki, the top tier of Greek football. Mhxanikoi remained in the Alpha Ethniki for the next 10 seasons, finishing as high as fourth place in 1982.
In the 1990s, Mhxanikoi experienced a decline in fortunes and were relegated to the Beta Ethniki in 1994. The club bounced back to the Alpha Ethniki in 1998, but were relegated again in 2002. Mhxanikoi has remained in the Beta Ethniki or lower divisions ever since.
Stadium
Mhxanikoi's home stadium is Nea Ionia Municipal Stadium, which has a capacity of 12,000 spectators. The stadium was built in 1930 and has been renovated several times since then.
