Panathinaikos Football Club

Panathinaikos Football Club (Greek: ?a?a???a???? ????t???? ?µ????, trans. Panathinaikos Athletic Club), commonly known as Panathinaikos or PAO, is a Greek professional football club based in Athens. The club was founded on 19 October 1908 and is one of the most successful clubs in Greece, having won 20 Greek Football Championships, 27 Greek Cups, 4 Greek League Cups, and 1 European Cup Winners' Cup.

History

Panathinaikos was founded by a group of middle-class athletes, led by Giorgos Kalafatis. The club's original name was Panellinios Podosfairikos Syllogos (Greek: ?a?e??????? ??d?sfa?????? S???????, trans. Panhellenic Football Club), but it was renamed Panathinaikos in 1919.

Panatha results

Panathinaikos won its first Greek Football Championship in 1923. The club went on to win the championship 19 more times, most recently in 2010. Panathinaikos has also won the Greek Cup 27 times, most recently in 2023.

In 1971, Panathinaikos won the European Cup Winners' Cup, defeating Celtic in the final. The club is the only Greek team to have won a European trophy.

Panathinaikos's home ground is the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium. The stadium is located in the Athens suburb of Nea Philadelphia. The stadium has a capacity of 33,300 spectators.

Panathinaikos has also played at the Athens Olympic Stadium. The stadium was built for the 2004 Summer Olympics. Panathinaikos played its home games at the Olympic Stadium from 2004 to 2013.
