Southend City Football Club is a professional association football club based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. As of the 2023–24 season, the team competes in the National League, the fifth tier of English football. Southend are known as "The Shrimpers", a reference to the area's maritime industry included as one of the quarters on the club badge.
History
Southend City was founded on 19 May 1906 in the Blue Boar pub. The club won the Southern League Second Division in both of their two initial seasons and were admitted into the Football League in 1920. Southend's highest league finish came in 1954–55, when they finished fourth in the Second Division. The club has also reached the FA Cup semi-finals on two occasions, in 1937 and 1949.
Stadium
Southend City's home ground is Roots Hall Stadium, which has a capacity of 11,300. The stadium was built in 1955 and has been the club's home ever since.
