Squirrel Taverners FC were founded in 2003 by a group of friends who met at the Squirrel pub in Stevenage. The club started out in the lowest division of the Hitchin Sunday League and quickly rose through the ranks. In 2019, they won promotion to Division One.
The club has a strong focus on youth development and has a number of youth teams. In 2018, their under-18 team won the Hitchin Sunday League Cup.
