More about the team

History

Thorpe Hesley Village was formed in june 2004 by Dave Ellis and al (Barney) Thomas under its origonal name Real Sportsman. The team moved from its home The Sportsman in 2008 as a result of the pub being too unreliable with closures happening on a yearly basis. The Red lion being the best pub in thorpe seemed like the best way forward and a great way to raise money for the club which was much needed after a few years on the slide. After just one season in the Red lion the team needed freshening up and decided to fold and restart in division 8 move to a new pub at The Ball Inn and move on with the times starting with the new name Thorpe Hesley Village which it hopes to keep for many years to come.

Honours

2004/05

The season THV formed they finnished rock bottom of division 9, this was the bottom of all the leagues however the team spirit was at an astonnishing high!

2005/06

The team quickly built and progressed to be one of the better teams in the lower league, finnishing runners up in div 8 and their second season saw them promoted to division 4 due to the exellent quality throughout the side.

2006/07

In division 4 they didn't look out of place and narrowly finished 3rd in what was another exellent season and was enough to prove they could mix it with the big boys gaining promotion to division 2!

2007/08

In division 2 THV finally found their level and had a difficult season in which they finnished 7th (4th bottom) and the team needed strengthening if they were to continue to progress thurther.

2008/09

In 2008/09 the team had a brilliant season finnishing 3rd place confortably however 2nd and 1st place was 16 points adrift and the quality of the top two was telling, secretary Dave Ellis decided to keep the team in division 2 despite the offer of a place in div 1 so they could have another crack at winning the league!

2009/10

This season turned out to be their best season to date, THV said a sad fairwell to their long serving manager Alan warham at the end of 08/09 and in stepped Vinnie who gave them a great chance for a league and cup double only to be sacked midway through the campaigne after a bustup with star centre half Rich pierpoint. Ian Hamstead took over and guided them to 2nd place and winners of the George Stainrod cup

2010/11

THV folded and reformed in 2010 as ian hamstead had created a few unhappy players which caused a mass exaduss and the club could no longer keep going. Alan warham came back after a season out and there was a real buzz about the place, THV finished 3rd in division 8 due to a very good run in in which they beat 3rd placed Herringthorpe on the last day to knick their spot!

2011/12

Another great season THV finnish runners up once again to a very strong Aston Village side who would go into Prem shortly after!

2012/13

FINALLY Dave Ellis and his men Win the Division 5 title, looking by far the best team the whole season and even pipping Swallownest after loosing to them on the opening day of the season

2013/14

A bit of a poor one as far as THV are concerned only managing to finnish 6th in what proved to be a very long and hard season. Lost a lot of players and will need to rebuild the team spirit for the 2014/15 campaign! Alan Warham retires once again and appoint Lee Hetherington as Manager with Ian Bradbury his assistant.

2015/16

A strange season this one! finnished in our highest position ever 4th in division 1 and promotion into the championship as highest ranked default team but saw 38 players registered in total throughout the campaign! the highest ever.

Lost our captain and heartbeat in carl hetherington who was forced to retire prematurely due to double leg break and then lost our way after that, could have finnished in top 3 had he not suffered such an horific injury.

Next season should be a cracker playing in the champoinship, our main rivals Thorpe Travs have folded so there should be no end of options for players being the only football team left in Thorpe Hesley!!
