Delft Spurs Football Team

Delft Spurs is a football team based in Delft, Netherlands. The team was founded in 1920 and plays in the Tweede Klasse, the fifth tier of Dutch football. Delft Spurs play their home games at the George Ward 17 stadium.

History

Delft Spurs was founded in 1920 by a group of students from Delft University of Technology. The team quickly rose through the ranks of Dutch football, reaching the Eerste Divisie (second tier) in 1930. Delft Spurs spent the next two decades in the Eerste Divisie, before being relegated to the Tweede Divisie in 1950.

Delft Spurs results

Delft Spurs remained in the Tweede Divisie until 1980, when they were promoted to the Eerste Divisie again. The team spent the next three seasons in the Eerste Divisie, before being relegated to the Tweede Divisie in 1983.

Delft Spurs have been playing in the Tweede Klasse ever since. The team has never won a major trophy, but they have reached the final of the KNVB Cup on two occasions, in 1932 and 1933.

Delft Spurs had a successful season in 2022-23, finishing in third place in the Tweede Klasse. The team qualified for the promotion playoffs, but they were knocked out by VVSB in the semi-finals.

Delft Spurs' top scorer for the season was Robin van Persie, who scored 20 goals in 26 appearances. Van Persie is the son of former Arsenal and Netherlands striker Robin van Persie.
