Liverpool are well and truly back and it isn’t under the tutelage of a familiar face in Jurgen Klopp either. Arne Slot’s the man responsible for the Reds’ resurgence, with the Dutchman adapting to life in a new country and a new league with ease so far. In fact, it’s admirable just how easily he has adjusted to his new role, with the Reds seeing off the biggest and best sides in the world once again.
Real Madrid curse ended
While Liverpool are looking ready for a serious title charge this season, it’s in European competition where Slot has arguably delivered his biggest achievement to date. After beating Real Madrid 2-0 at Anfield to maintain their flawless Champions League record, Slot’s squad also ended a curse. Liverpool hadn’t beaten the Spanish giants in eight previous meetings, but they dominated Carlo Ancelotti’s side and showcased their evident progress under the former Feyenoord boss.
The Reds are purring in all competitions, with Slot’s new approach being embraced by players who have clearly warmed to his methods. Fans are also understandably excited, with many confidently captaining Mohamed Salah in their fantasy football teams every week and using trusted betting sites in this list to back the Reds for silverware this season. Arne Slot’s impact has been immense and the departure of Liverpool legend, Jurgen Klopp, has been far easier for the Anfield faithful to handle given their new manager’s smooth start.
Players reinvigorated
The players also appear to be enjoying themselves. Slot isn’t just a likeable character, but he is an astute tactician who has found a way to add more solidity to a Liverpool side that looked far too open under Jurgen Klopp at times. Slot has instilled a more measured all-round approach, with Liverpool still offering plenty of threats in attacking areas, alongside establishing a sound defense that rarely gives opponents a sniff.
Under Jurgen Klopp, certain players also looked a tad stale at times. However, the arrival of Arne Slot has resulted in a set of players that are clearly reinvigorated and enjoying a new approach. Jurgen Klopp will always be a Liverpool hero, but even the most respected managers around can struggle to inspire players at times. Fresh ideas and new tactics are therefore needed, and while some clubs get new managerial appointments wrong, Liverpool appear to have nailed this one.
Defensive stability key
As we’ve touched on already, one of the most pleasing aspects of this new-look Liverpool’s rise to the top of the tree once again has undoubtedly been their new-found defensive stability. Question marks over Virgil van Dijk have vanished, while Ibrahima Konaté is having the season of his life so far. Both centre-backs have been assisted by a more compact midfield in front of them, with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister showing tenacity this season and the outstanding Ryan Gravenberch relishing life under his fellow countryman.
As a result, Liverpool have the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season at the time of writing, with six to their name. While Slot’s side have been impressive going forward, their early success has been built on a solid defensive foundation.
Early days still
Although Arne Slot’s start to life in England has been mightily impressive, there is still a long way to go in the current campaign. A slump in form could be around the corner and it’s then when we’ll really know what Slot and his troops are made of. So far, though, Liverpool’s players are clearly thriving under a new manager with a seemingly bright future in the game.
