The Consett District Sunday League was founded in 1921 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league started with just six teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has 20 teams competing in two divisions.

The league has been won by a variety of teams over the years, but the most successful team is Consett Steel Club, who have won the league 14 times. Other successful teams include Consett Celtic, Consett Corinthians, and Blackhill Comrades.
