What is League 3?

League 3 is an amateur football league in England. It is the fourth tier of the English football league system, below League 2, League One, and the Premier League.

League 3 was formed in 2004 as a result of a merger between the Football Conference and the Football League Third Division. It currently consists of 24 clubs, divided into two divisions of 12 teams each.

League 3 action

The top four teams in each division at the end of the season are promoted to League 2, while the bottom four teams in each division are relegated to the National League.

How does League 3 work?

League 3 teams play each other twice in a season, once at home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season is the champion.

League 3 match

If two teams are tied on points at the end of the season, the team with the best goal difference is the winner. If the goal difference is still tied, the teams will play a playoff match to decide the winner.

The bottom four teams in each division are relegated to the National League. The teams that are promoted to League 3 are the winners of the National League North and National League South, as well as the two teams that win the playoffs from each division.
