Leighton & District Sunday League
The Leighton & District Sunday League is an amateur football league based in the Leighton Buzzard area of Bedfordshire, England. It was founded in 1922 and currently has 40 teams competing in four divisions. The league is affiliated to the Bedfordshire County Football Association and is eligible to enter teams into the FA Sunday Cup.
History
The Leighton & District Sunday League was founded in 1922 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league initially had just two divisions, but it has since expanded to four divisions. The league has been won by a variety of teams over the years, including Houghton United, FC Buzzard, and Luton Celtic.
Format
The Leighton & District Sunday League season runs from September to May. Each team plays each other team in their division once, home and away. The top two teams in each division at the end of the season are promoted to the next division, while the bottom two teams are relegated to the previous division.
Cup competitions
In addition to the league, the Leighton & District Sunday League also runs a cup competition, the Leighton & District Sunday League Cup. The cup competition is open to all teams in the league. The winner of the cup competition qualifies for the FA Sunday Cup.
