Mid Staffs Junior League

The league has been part of the local grassroots landscape for more than 30 years. Its president, Mike Barnard, was instrumental in its formation and has been recognised with a British Empire Medal for his long service to grassroots football.

A progression through youth football

The youngest teams play mini-soccer, with a small-sided progression from 3v3 at Under-7 through 5v5 and 7v7 in the later mini-soccer stages. From Under-12, the league moves to 9v9 football for two age groups, followed by 11-a-side football from Under-14 to Under-17.

The mini-soccer programme is development-focused: the league does not publish results or tables for those younger age groups. This keeps the early stages distinct from the competitive age-group football that follows.

Respect and safeguarding

The league promotes the FA Respect programme and gives safeguarding a visible place in its guidance for clubs, parents, players and volunteers. Its approach includes a nominated Respect Marshall at each team game, while concerns are directed through club, league and County FA welfare routes.
