The Mid Sussex Youth Football League, usually known as MSYFL, is a long-established grassroots youth competition in Sussex. The league's official website says it was formed in 1968 and now runs football from under-7 to under-18 age groups, making it one of the larger youth leagues in the county.
Although its name points to Mid Sussex, the league's own information shows a wider footprint. MSYFL says its membership area covers East Sussex and West Sussex, with clubs also able to come from up to twenty miles beyond the county boundaries into Kent and Surrey. That makes it relevant not only to families in Mid Sussex itself, but also to clubs across a broader South East catchment.
MSYFL is a youth league rather than an adult competition, and it presents itself as a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation. Its management committee is made up of people with practical grassroots experience, including current and former club officials and referees, which helps explain why the site is geared toward the everyday needs of youth football clubs as well as players and parents.
One useful point for prospective teams is that the league says all of its divisions are mixed, so girls and boys are welcome. That makes the competition a practical option for community clubs looking for inclusive youth football across multiple age groups without having to move between separate leagues as children get older.
Sussex County FA lists the Mid Sussex Youth Football League among the county's affiliated youth leagues and identifies it as a Sunday competition. The league also says it operates multiple divisions in every age group from under-7 to under-18, giving clubs a structured route for regular fixtures across the season.
For volunteers, the official website is more than a landing page. It brings together safeguarding information, league rules, Respect material, fixtures links, a clubs directory and application details, which makes it easier for new and existing clubs to understand how the competition works.
MSYFL gives clear prominence to safeguarding, equality and behaviour standards. It publishes a safeguarding and child protection policy, signposts welfare contacts and Sussex FA support, and links its work to the FA Grassroots Code and Respect expectations. That is especially useful for parents and club volunteers who want to know what support structures sit behind a youth league, not just when the next matches are scheduled.
