North West Colleges Sports League

It is organised around institutions rather than local open-age clubs. Teams represent their college or school, and participation is therefore normally arranged through a sports department, enrichment programme or football academy.

Football competition structure

The current football programme includes Division 1 first-team and second-team sections, Division 2 and women's football. This allows an institution to enter different representative sides where its student participation supports that. The wider North West Colleges Sports League explains that its main divisions were designed around combined football and netball participation, while other sport leagues can operate independently. That approach reflects the practical organisation of travel and fixtures between education providers; it should not be read as a conventional football-pyramid system.

Who it serves

Current and recent football entries include colleges and sixth forms from places such as Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Manchester, Warrington, Stockport and Clitheroe. These examples describe the broad North West educational network, not a permanent membership list. College football academies may also use the league as part of a wider programme of training and cup competition.
