A youth football pathway

The league’s established guidance sets out football from Under-7 through to Under-18 level. The playing format progresses as players get older: Under-7 and Under-8 football is 5v5; Under-9 and Under-10 is 7v7; Under-11 and Under-12 is 9v9; and Under-13 to Under-18 is 11v11. For a parent or player joining a club, that means the competition spans both mini-sided football and the transition to the full-sided youth game.

The younger age groups are development-focused, while older age groups provide the framework for longer-form youth football. Clubs seeking to enter a team can follow the league’s application announcements and guidance through its official website.

Portsmouth and the surrounding area

PYFL is rooted in the Portsmouth area but its member clubs come from the wider local football community. It is therefore a competition to consider for youth teams based in Portsmouth and neighbouring parts of south-east Hampshire.
