About Severn Valley Youth Football League

Read the full league overview

The league was formed in 2016 through the merger of the former Gloucester and Stroud youth leagues. It now serves boys and girls from under-8 to under-17 football, and describes its purpose as helping young people play regular football in a safe and inclusive environment.

Club football and player development

The competition is built around local youth clubs. Its public information includes an age-group overview and club information, which can help families identify the type of local football available. The league is England Accredited and was Gloucestershire FA’s League of the Year in 2017.

League rules provide for the recognised youth-football formats of 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11. The format used depends on the age group, giving players a route through the small-sided game and into the full-size format as they develop.
