??? First Half – Gillard’s Return Shifts the Tide
The evening began tight and spirited. For the opening 10 minutes, Matthew Hughes pulled the strings at the sharp end, snapping at heels and leading the press, making life uncomfortable for the visiting backline. But the game’s tone soon shifted — Slickback Gillard, back from injury, moved with a quiet, commanding presence that seemed to lift everyone in Lengers colours.
Suddenly Defib were under siege. Wave after wave of attacks crashed towards their goal, and Hari Morgan stood tall, a lone rock amid the storm, reacting swiftly to every shot and cross. Usually so tough to break down, Defib’s defence looked out of sync. Alex Attwell covered every blade of grass, while Tom Kennett raced up and down the left flank — relentless, yet increasingly stretched. Declan Mennell, still regaining match sharpness, found the pace unforgiving; worse was to follow when he turned on thin air and crumpled with an ankle injury, forcing an early, messy reshuffle and throwing Defib’s substitution plans off-kilter.
With gaps appearing from loose marking and Lengers flooding wide areas, three goals slipped past before the whistle blew. The sides trooped off: Lengers buoyant, Defib quiet, morale bruised and in urgent need of inspiration.

?? Second Half – A Stunner, But a Tough Night Continues
The restart brought no immediate spark. Fresh legs in McKenzie Jones and Aidan Gigg struggled to find their rhythm — pushed too high up the pitch, they left little shape behind, and Defib’s passing lacked the zip or confidence to build anything lasting. The pressure on the home goal never relented; Lengers poured forward again, and Hari Morgan once more stood firm, beating away shots and claiming crosses as if defying the odds. Two more clinical finishes stretched the lead to 5-0.
Then, a flash of brilliance. Tom Kennett read the game perfectly, stepping in to intercept high upfield before unleashing a thunderbolt from distance — it slammed against the post and bounced in, the night’s undisputed highlight, a strike that roared with power and purpose.
Defib almost found another late lift: McKenzie Jones rounded the keeper and looked certain to score — only to skew wide with the gaping net before him. It was the moment that summed up Defib’s evening: effort aplenty, but fortune nowhere to be found.

? Man of the Match – Hari Morgan
In a night of heavy pressure, his sharp reflexes and fearless handling kept the scoreline far more respectable than it might have been — without him, this could have been a landslide.
