This weekend’s game held for me a great opportunity to get the season started, even in December. Friday saw me have 3 people return to action (Big Adam, Hat boy, Dan W), the subs bench to be extremely strong and the opponents very beatable, even missing big players like Killa, Steve B. By Saturday lunch time though things had changed, a couple people dropped out the thirds needed players and this forced us to field a scratch 11 v Old Southendians. Big Adam, Gavin, Hatboy and Dean M now only 1 week off.

It wasn’t too long before I felt even worse a Shocking 11 mins saw them took lead through a poor defensive team effort, and their striker profited from a clear, open and gifted opportunity. A plus point then, we Fought back scored. Adam S in centre of midfield found time and space to slot lee B into the area his shot was to hot to handle and Loui R stole in on 42min to toe it over the line.

At this point I felt we had enough to go on to win it, we took the tougher side to defend in the first half and going uphill with the sun in the opponents eyes would be a good boost to use in the second half. But shockingly their 2nd goal went in, with only 30 secs till break. A very poor defence wasn’t organised, no person was on the post and the striker had a free header to knock in before the break. We need to stop this as a team, we score we concede not good enough fellas.

This then frustrated me, at 2-1 down I asked for reason to play on. I asked the reason everyone was here and why everyone needed to prove that they should be here. It needed to be said that we had another slow start again for the second half but then after around 15mins in we dominated. With Scott getting plenty of joy down the left hand side, we started to make more and more opportunities.

This pressure led to Loui’s goal on 78mins and this same pressure focused us to push for winner, this come as a last min penalty. The second half then showed enough guts and steel to show mw the harmony will come, and it will come soon we just need to be patient, we need to be as one, solid and fight together the opponents and poor Ref’s decisions like those for the 2 yellows, Ruiz’s late tackle and Adam dissent.

Overall then a promising, determined second half was created from a laboured and patchy first half, we might have turned a corner again with this reverse. We stopped the rot after one game; as the loss to Thundersley is now forgotten. We can go forward again knowing we are closer to finding the right balance and the right result. Next week is our last game before the Christmas break we are away to Thorpe at Bournes Green.

All I ask is we treat this game as the most important we have ever played, I want the win before the end of the year, I want to know we truly have passed the ‘settling in’ stage of this side. A new team takes time and a new team takes patience and focus. All the results so far this year have been up and down, let end on the up.
