We lost a little ground today when we played Stambridge and in an unpleasant way. We rarely go out to play without heart and passing yet today we rolled over a little too easy for my liking. We were missing a few senior players but I feel we really didn’t make a good account of ourselves against a well drilled and well organised team.

We all know Stambridge have designs on winning the Premiership this year, if this is true then we might have been just the latest step to them lifting the title. The have only lost once and in truth were in second gear when they were playing us……Mind you we let them sit in second gear and never really came out or gave it ago.

What does this mean in the wider sense people get frustrated, I would lose 15-0 and enjoy it if I thought we tried and made a go of it but this week we never were at the races. We were countered on 3 times for goals, we only tested their goal once from a Tierney shot and we had players looking for excuses rather than admitting that they just didn’t try hard enough.

A bad day at the office then we could say, possibly? Or a wake up call for the management to shake things up a little, I’m sure after I spoke to a few players, we all agree that we shouldn’t have given up a winning streak so limply but we did and need to rectify this as soon as possible. On the plus sides and there are some I felt the spirit was still intact before this loss. We all turned up and measured ourselves against Stambridge and although we were found wanting we found out a lot about them and ourselves.

We had patches of good play and we tried to fix a terrible and slow first half by coming out in the second and applying ourselves…..The end result though was like the third goal a confidence killer and it took a little stuffing out of us, and perhaps even a little fight, ill need to assess over the next week. We are still in contention and we now need to really buckle down and match teams from the start of the game rather than trying to claw back a deficit. I’m sure ill see the kind of response we all need to but in for Shoebury next week.

Premiership games are not the kind you can turn up half-hearted or what will happen, will resemble today’s game, you will lose and it will feel harder the next game onwards. Let’s get our confidence rolling again and really bounce back from today’s poor show. I’m not worried about individual performances, I haven’t mentioned any in this report but we need to be more unified and play as a team, communicate and then the opposition will find it much harder to break us down.

One final note which I feel must be said; we lost a leage game today not the league. Were a team with seven new players and a team that hasn’t hit top gear yet and to be honest were in a semi final, mid table in the league and in contention for a top 4 position. I feel days like today will happen and should be expected, then handled and forgotten quickly as we push on to better things. We now owe it to ourselves to get straight back at the league and prepare for Shoebury with some determination. The right result will see us look at today as a one of rather than a catastrophe.
