WADDS THE HERO!

Heddon beat Barrasford 3-2 with a goal in the 92nd minute from Goalkeeper David Wadds. On the bench after recovering from injury he had to be convinced to be a sub and with drawing 2-2 against a stout Barrasford defence he was flung on with 5 minutes left and scored a cracking header the preceded scenes of wild celebrations!

Not our best game by a longshot, but that’s what good teams do - win ugly. Barrasford came with a depleted team and the bare 11 and played with a 5 man defence the whole game, relying on their striker to cause us problems. Scoring into the wind with a header against the run of play caused Beresford to sit further back, whilst we had plenty of pressure in the first half, we didn’t create that many chances.

After halftime the wind died down for once but we still had the vast majority of the ball, Ross scoring a cracking header from a brilliant Murta corner. At that point there was only one team that would go on to win, except we got caught on the break and Barrasford made it 2-1. Bull with no chance for both goals.

But credit to Heddon we kept passing the ball and then scored a quick equaliser through man of the match Elliott after a cracking cross from Ross from the left. Cue bedlam! Cross after cross into the box with it missing our lads by inches and deflections going their way and their keeper making a couple of good saves. The game looked to be over when we put Wadds on for Woody up front and after taking out walker he should have scored 2 before he actually did! First occasion he had all the time in the world in the box only to scuff his chance and the other when he was through on goal only to slip like Bambi on ice.

With 60 seconds left to play, Scoobs goes up for a header that was going out for a corner and preceded to head the back of the lads head with his cheekbone as well as the ball - goal kick. Scoobs is concussed on the floor and not in a good way, 45 seconds left and its game over - until Tom Appeadile comes on to change the game!

As noddy stated in the pub their lad kicked the goal kick and it landed at Noddy’s feet, Noddy said if scoobs was playing centre half rather than Tom he would have passed it to Scoobs, however he missed out Tom and passed to Ramma at right back. Ramma took a touch and whacked the ball into the box - only waddsy was near it and their defender dropped too deep, the ball started to drop low just inside the box, it was a chance but a difficult one, Wadds stooped and the ball glanced off his head and picked up speed and nestled into the bottom corner, an absolutely brilliant header (as Walker said to Wadds after, he didn’t have a clue how difficult that header was) - cue a massive pile on, even woody and the two managers got involved!

Game won, the Barrasford lads were rightfully gutted at getting a point but a game which was played in good spirits deserved a winner.

We need to play far better than that to win moving forward but it was pleasing to see us graft as a team and get the result.

Well done!

Ratings by Phil who missed the goal getting changed! Gary would also like to take credit for leaving early!
