Lakes travelled to Hartlepool to play a team who they played last year.
Lakes started with less than a 100% team with a few players dropping out the day before and a few on family commitments.
Lakes took the position going down hill, however it didnt work in their favour. within the first 5 minutes lakes found themselves 1-0 down. This was due to a ball over the top which caught aaron in front of his player, with a quick run down their right, it seen the ball go across the 6yd box where their number 10 with a quick flick, put it beyond simmo.
Lakes shell shocked at this point, managed to get hold of the ball and keep it on the floor, something that they havnt managed to do for a long time. Lakes managed to get atleast 3 shots in and around the goal mouth for the next 20 minutes, which seen Schooner FC start to crumble.
Lakes unfortunately went 2-0 down when once again, a ball over the top seen the ball get tangled between coops leg only for the schooner attacker to put it away.
Lakes within the 30th minute seen a controversy penalty given, clearly the tackle was outside the box, however the referee claimed it was in. irrespective of what the lakes players said, penalty given.
Schooner stepped up, placed to the left, SAVED SAVED SAVED, Simmo low down to his right.
For all the efforts, lakes went 3-0 down just before the half wen the lakes defence were found flat footed and the schooner attack force put it away.
Lakes top scorer in pre-season Alan Jones (Albo), managed to get lakes one back just before the whistle with a neet back header which looped over the schooner keeper to nestle in the top left corner.
Half time
Change seen lee addison move to centre back, Luke to come off and dan addison come on the pitch.
Schooner from the start seemed to be on the back foot especially when a solo run seemed paul reeves was going to loose the ball, only for him to get the strike away, how it made it into the bottom left corner, only god knows, however 3-2 to schooner.
Lakes equalised only 10 minutes later with a superb ball through and a quick turn by lewis which seen lewis strike the ball just out of reach from the schooner keeper.
Lakes with a spring in their step, pushed and puched to get that 4th only for the schooner to make a substitute which can only be described as chubackers double to come on. Unfortunately for lakes thats who scored after a defencive error from lee addison shouting and not getting to the flick on which seen simmo lifeless in his goal.
Lakes still up beat that they could get something out of this made a few changes, jimbo for albo to start and liam nick off for skel.
Unfortunately this didnt have the impact that was needed and with approximately 10 minutes to go, schooner placed the ball over aarons head and ran down the right side, placed the ball over only to be cleared, then put back in for the incoming midfielder to put it away.
Lakes kep battling all the way to the end however score still remainded 5-3.
Final whistle
Overall, a good battling game with outstanding play by individuals. Worked as a team and found positions for lads to play in. pitty about the result.
