Home league match played on 28 September 2013.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

2 minutes extra time played.

That’s three in a row as Maidonians reached second place in the league with a 6-3 win over nine man Dunmow. We were off to a blistering start scoring our first goal after 1 minute 27 seconds which was the exact time it took Cheesy to eat two meat pies a burger and 2 hot dogs at Knebworth 2 years ago. The goal was created by James producing some excellent work on the right and crossing for Tony “Strings” Newton to open his account for the season.

Maidonians 1 v Dunmow Rhodes Vets. 0

We were pushing high up the pitch and taking advantage of our extra men and were rewarded with our second goal on 8 minutes, Cheesy putting Jason Friend through to slot the ball home, 2-0.  In the thirteenth minute it was three as the ball deflected off of Cheesy’s right foot into the path of James who duly obliged, 3-0.

Just as Dunmow were about to re-start the match their 10th man turned up. Five minutes later they were back to nine as their right sided midfielder pulled up in agony with a torn hamstring. This was not going to be their day which was proved in the 20th minute when their keeper handled the ball outside the area. A sending off offence but a generous yellow card was produced by referee Andy Gwilt. James lined himself up and unluckily hit his free kick against the bar. A let off for Dunmow, but not in the 27th minute when Jason B. turned inside two defenders and squared to Jason F. who scored his second of the game. Then just before half-time Manno picked up a caution for a deliberate handball. Our first yellow of the season, but then Noel hasn’t been playing.

 Half Time – Maidonians 4 v Dunmow 0

We carried on our attacking play in the second half and were rewarded with another goal in the 55th minute when Jason B. robbed their defender side stepped their last man and crashed the ball home, 5-0.

Substitution 60th minute - Adrian on Tim off, Joe on Oddsy off

Dunmow were still trying to attack even though they only had nine men. They were finally rewarded in the 61st minute when their striker broke away down the middle and placed the ball in the corner of the net, 5-1. All of a sudden we stopped playing football as a team and kept giving the ball away.

Substitution 65th minute - Ray on Jason C. off

Adrian was having a torrid time at left back and wasn’t helped by the verbal abuse he was receiving from Vinnie and Manno. Bob shouted out “give him some encouragement like telling him his hair is auburn not ginger or telling him that he doesn’t run like fairy.” A two week course in Anger Management has duly been booked.

Substitution 66th minute - Bob on Shakey off

In the 67th minute Dunmow were rewarded with their second goal when a cross from the right was punched out by Vinnie only to fall at the feet of their striker who despatched the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net, 5-2. Suddenly our game seemed to be falling apart with mistakes being made all over the pitch. So much so that in the 76th minute 9 man Dunmow broke away down the right and crossed into the area for their forward to get in between the defence and slot the ball home, 5-3. Another bit of verbal abuse was directed at Adrian who decided enough was enough and duly substituted himself for Oddsy to return to the pitch.

Substitution 77th minute - Oddsy on Adrian off

We were still making errors, but in the 85th minute we hit Dunmow on the break when a through ball found Jason F. through on goal with only the keeper to beat. Just as he was about to shoot their defender brought him down from behind to give away a penalty. Manno stepped forward and placed the ball to the left of the keeper, 6-3 and game over. Not a good second half but another 3 points in the bag.
