MEFF #31 – KAMIKAZE ALL-STARS 2 - 2 THE WALLS OF JERICHO:

A close MEFF between the two goalkeepers ended with honours even, as Steels’ Kamikaze All-Stars took what looked to be an unassailable lead, before a stirring comeback and equalising Captain’s goal from Rowan saw The Walls of Jericho ensure a mouth-watering replay next week.

The first half of the game was dominated by two strong defences as both teams kept sweepers at the back and saw off any long balls, but a sprained ankle to Patto just before half time opened up the game as the All-Stars largely resorted to counter-attacks due to their reduced mobility, while Jericho saw a lot of possession through Crozier, Phil G, Kieran and Fletch but rarely troubled Steels, with Sicky and Ash coming closest with long-range efforts that were blocked by Pete (buttock) and Patto (thigh). Griffiths shot several attempts wide when he ran free on goal, while Luke, Brett, Griffin and Pete linked up well to create chances when they found the space, but the final shots were delayed and allowed Rowan’s defence to come to his rescue.

1-0: Patto(Rowan parried Patto’s first shot from the right into the path of Griffiths, who’s swivelled shot deflected back to Patto for a low finish into the bottom right corner that Rowan couldn’t get behind)

Second Half:

2-0: Brett(a fantastic counter-attack saw Brett play a quick one-two with Luke, before accurately stabbing the ball into the far corner from the left)

2-1: Crozier(Fletch and Kieran combined to take down a high ball that the All-Stars failed to defend, and Crozier was on hand to strike home Fletch’s sliding cross at the back post)

2-2: Rowan(dribbling out from his box, Rowan strolled forward and struck a fierce 20 yard shot under Paul into the bottom right corner)

Men of the Match were Luke and Rowan for “his calmness at the back, inspiring saves and wonder-strike goal”.
