MEFF #35 – THE LINCREDIBLES 2 - 4 JUST BECAUSE HE BUYS YOU DINNER DOESN’T MEAN YOU OWE HIM ANYTHING:

The competitive edge returned to the LMB MEFF as Spence’s team TheLINcredibles took on Griffin’s Just Because He Buys You Dinner Doesn't Mean You Owe Him Anything (Griff’s favourite line from ‘Friends’, apparently!)

The whole match was incredibly close and both keepers were required to make some strong stops, with Steels smartly saving Griffiths’ penalty at 0-0 (after Griffin had clipped Griffiths in the area) and Frumpy denying goal-bound efforts from Luke, Ash and Patto. In the end it all came down to which team was most clinical on the counter-attack and refused to commit too many men forward; Luke, Phil P and Ash provided most of the running for JBHBYDDMYOHA, while Phil G, Patto and Griffin took turns standing motionless up front or standing motionless at the back to thwart the attacks of The LINcredible, who were more fluid as a team (Brett remaining as their key anchor in defence) with Fletch, Neil, Spence, Griffiths and Crozier moving as a unit, but although they saw lots of possession they couldn’t get their shots away through the bodies.

1-0: Patto(Phil P hung a corner in the air from the right and Patto, at the back post, accurately knocked his header down and in off the front upright)

Half Time:

2-0: Luke(having broken down a LINcredible counter-attack, Patto fed Luke on the edge of the box, who stepped inside his marker and sent a low shot under Frumpy’s dive)

2-1: Fletch(Spence’s shot was blocked by Patto, but the loose ball fell to Neil on the right wing, who saw his strong strike parried by Steels, but Fletch was on-hand to sweep home the rebound at the back post)

3-1: Griff(Ash and Phil P combined before finding Patto on the left wing, who curled a low pass to the unmarked Griffin at the far post, and he calmly rounded the diving Frumpy and slotted home)

3-2: Spence(Fletch broke away down the centre of the pitch before feeding the unmarked Spence on the left of the area, who poked a clinical finish into the bottom left corner)

4-2: Griff(Luke received a roll-out from Steels and found Griffin down the right wing in acres of space, and he calmly approached Frumpy before slashing a shot into the bottom right corner)

Men of the Match were Fletch, “because although nice guys finish last they deserve to get something”, and Steels, as “he was very good coming off his line to thwart attacks and made a number of very good saves to keep you ahead. He also saved Griffiths’ penno!”
