The match burst into life early on when Heath Rangers FC U10 Benfica took the lead in the third minute, capitalising on a swift break to unsettle the home defence. Rainhill Rockets Barca responded promptly, with Jack Ellis equalising in the eighth minute. His goal came courtesy of a clever back-heel assist from substitute Caelan Mothersole, who had entered the fray shortly before, demonstrating immediate impact. Ellis’s finish from close range inside the box was clinical and restored parity.

However, the visitors were quick to strike back, regaining the lead just a minute later in the ninth minute, leaving the home side trailing once again. The Rockets then made their first substitution at the tenth minute, with Harrison Amatiello replacing Taylor Stockton on the right midfield, signalling a tactical shift.

Five minutes later, at the fifteenth minute, two further changes were made: Harrison Jordan came on for left forward Logan Lalley, and Caelan Mothersole replaced right forward David Keelan. These substitutions injected fresh energy into the team and soon bore fruit.

In the eighteenth minute, Ben Crawford showcased his technical ability by scoring a direct free-kick with his right foot, levelling the score once more. This set-piece goal was a vital moment, demonstrating the midfielder’s precision and composure under pressure.

The first half concluded at the twenty-fifth minute with the score finely poised, setting up an intriguing second half.

Early in the second period, Taylor Stockton, who had been reintroduced to the pitch, scored in the thirty-sixth minute. Assisted by David Keelan with a neat short pass, Stockton’s close-range finish inside the box gave Rockets Barca a crucial lead.

The momentum swung decisively in Rainhill Rockets Barca’s favour as substitute Harrison Jordan made a significant impact, netting twice in quick succession at the fortieth and forty-third minutes. His goals extended the home side’s advantage to 5-2, putting the visitors under immense pressure.

Despite the deficit, Heath Rangers FC U10 Benfica fought back and were awarded a direct free-kick in the fiftieth minute, which they converted to reduce the arrears to 5-3. This late goal added a tense finish to the match but was insufficient to prevent a home victory.

Rainhill Rockets Barca’s tactical flexibility, combined with timely substitutions and clinical finishing, proved decisive in this entertaining contest. The team’s ability to respond to early setbacks and maintain attacking intent ultimately secured all three points at The Holt Playing Fields.
