Rainhill Rockets Barca travelled to Ormiston Chadwick Academy on the morning of 3rd October 2026 to face Matthiola U10 Oranges in a league away fixture. Kick-off was promptly at 9:00am for this 7-a-side contest, which lasted 50 minutes plus added time. The Rockets delivered a commanding performance, running out comfortable 7-0 winners against their opponents.
Rainhill Rockets Barca lined up in a 2-3-1 formation, a setup designed to balance defensive solidity with midfield control and attacking potency. Harry Southworth took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, tasked with organising the backline and keeping a clean sheet. The central defensive duo of Harrison Amatiello and Jack Ellis were expected to provide a strong shield in front of Southworth, breaking up attacks and distributing the ball forward. In midfield, Ben Crawford occupied the central role, orchestrating play and linking defence with attack, while David Keelan and Caelan Mothersole operated on the right and left flanks respectively, charged with both supporting defence and supplying crosses or driving runs. Leading the line was Logan Lalley as the lone striker, whose role was to spearhead the attack and convert chances. Taylor Stockton was named as the substitute, ready to make an impact if called upon.
The match burst into life early on as Ben Crawford opened the scoring in the third minute, demonstrating his influence from midfield with a well-taken goal. This early strike set the tone for the Rockets, who looked confident and composed on the ball. Seven minutes later, at the tenth minute mark, a tactical substitution saw Taylor Stockton replace striker Logan Lalley, injecting fresh energy into the forward line.
Stockton wasted no time making his mark, doubling the lead for Rainhill Rockets Barca in the 16th minute with a composed finish. The visitors continued to dominate possession and territory, and Ben Crawford once again found the net in the 21st minute, reinforcing his pivotal role in the midfield and extending the advantage to 3-0.
As the first half drew to a close, Rainhill Rockets Barca maintained their grip on the game, heading into the half-time interval at 25 minutes with a commanding three-goal cushion.
The second half began with an unfortunate own goal from a Matthiola U10 Oranges player in the 28th minute, further increasing the Rockets’ lead to 4-0. This moment underlined the pressure Rainhill Rockets Barca were exerting on their opponents’ defence.
Caelan Mothersole then took centre stage, scoring twice in quick succession to make it 6-0. His first goal came in the 31st minute, showcasing his ability to exploit space on the left flank, followed by a second strike in the 36th minute that highlighted his attacking threat and composure in front of goal.
The final goal of the match was a rare and memorable contribution from goalkeeper Harry Southworth in the 47th minute. His involvement in the scoring added a fitting capstone to a dominant team display and ensured the scoreline read 7-0 in favour of Rainhill Rockets Barca.
Throughout the match, the Rockets demonstrated excellent teamwork, tactical discipline, and clinical finishing. Their 2-3-1 formation allowed them to control the midfield and create numerous scoring opportunities, while the defensive pairing of Amatiello and Ellis kept a clean sheet with solid performances. The introduction of Stockton proved decisive, and the midfielders Crawford and Mothersole were instrumental in both creating and converting chances.
Rainhill Rockets Barca’s emphatic victory at Ormiston Chadwick Academy will surely boost their confidence as they continue their league campaign.
