Rainhill Rockets Barca travelled to Wade Deacon High School on 17 October 2026 for a 9:00am kick-off in a 7-a-side league away fixture against Pex Hill U10 Lyon. The Rockets secured a commanding 6-1 victory over their opponents in a match lasting 50 minutes plus added time.
Rainhill Rockets Barca lined up in a 2-3-1 formation, deploying two central defenders, three midfielders across the right, central, and left channels, and a lone striker leading the line. Harry Southworth took his place in goal, providing the last line of defence. Jack Ellis and Harrison Amatiello formed the central defensive partnership, expected to shield the goalkeeper and initiate play from the back. The midfield trio consisted of Taylor Stockton on the right, Ben Crawford centrally, and David Keelan on the left, tasked with both defensive duties and supporting attacks. Up front, Logan Lalley operated as the sole striker, charged with finishing chances created by the midfield. The bench included substitute Caelan Mothersole, ready to impact proceedings when called upon.
The match burst into life early on as Ben Crawford opened the scoring in the 7th minute, demonstrating his ability to influence the game from central midfield. Just four minutes later, striker Logan Lalley doubled the advantage, capitalising on the team’s attacking momentum. The Rockets’ dominance was clear as they controlled possession and territory.
At the 18th minute mark, Caelan Mothersole replaced Ben Crawford, introducing fresh legs into the midfield. However, the visitors’ pressure soon paid off again when an own goal from a Pex Hill defender in the 19th minute extended Rainhill’s lead to 3-0, a cruel blow for the home side. Shortly after, at 25 minutes, Ben Crawford was reintroduced to the pitch, this time replacing central defender Jack Ellis, signalling a tactical shift as the team looked to maintain their attacking impetus. The first half concluded at this point with the Rockets firmly in control.
The second half began with Ben Crawford quickly making his mark once more, scoring in the 29th minute to push the scoreline to 4-0. Defensive adjustments followed as Jack Ellis returned to the field in place of Harrison Amatiello at 33 minutes, aiming to reinforce the backline. Further changes saw Harrison Amatiello come back on for left midfielder David Keelan in the 38th minute, indicating a reshuffle in midfield roles.
Pex Hill U10 Lyon managed to find a consolation goal in the 41st minute, breaking their scoring duck and offering a glimmer of hope. Yet, Rainhill Rockets responded immediately with Harrison Amatiello netting in the 42nd minute, restoring their four-goal cushion. Ben Crawford completed his hat-trick in the 44th minute, underscoring his pivotal role in the team’s attacking success.
In the closing stages, Taylor Stockton replaced striker Logan Lalley at 46 minutes, possibly to inject energy and maintain control as the match wound down. Rainhill Rockets Barca’s clinical finishing and tactical flexibility ensured a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Pex Hill U10 Lyon.
Ben Crawford’s outstanding performance, highlighted by three goals and influential midfield play, earned him the player of the match accolade. The Rockets’ well-organised 2-3-1 formation and effective substitutions proved decisive in this convincing away triumph.
