Home league match played on 22 January 2011.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

A cool morning at Carlton Park with the over night rain making the pitch soft and the but it had been rolled and looked like it would be good to play on.

The game started at a frantic pace with both teams looking to take the initiative the Sax lads working hard all over the pitch to keep F&W under control. It wasn't until the 10th minute that we had the 1st chance from a corner the ball came in but the keeper did really well and cleared up the cross. On 12 F&W had a strong Penalty shout but the ref decided that the ball was already out of play before the foul had taken place and a goal kick was given. On 18 Arron had a free kick from about 25 yards but it was straight at the keeper. The next chance came on 22 some good play from the lads ended up with Rossi getting through on goal but his shot went just wide, a square ball across the box was on but it is only right to take on a shot if you think you can score. Jack made a good double save and his play throughout the whole game made him a contender for MOM. The 1st half could have seen Sax with at least 3 goals but the keeper kept the shots out and Ed but a shot just wide of either post, The lads finished the half strongly and were on top and we were more disappointed to hear the half time whistle than the visitors.

Half Time Sax 0-0 F&W

The 2nd half saw the lads kicking into the wind and again working hard to get on top, 10 mins in to the half and some great play form the lads resulted in Tom playing the ball to Ben and he burst in to the box and played a ball across the keeper and Ed nipped in at the far post to tap in and open the scoring. A great goal and no more than the lads deserved, Sam had the next attempt on goal from a corner but his header went straight at the keeper. F&W had a great chance to level the scores when their striker was put through on goal and with him racing clear Sam did really well to get back and made a great tackle in the area and with Jack well positioned to pick up the loose ball. The lads worked extremely hard and closed F&W down well all over the pitch and resorted them to long shots and hopeful punts forward. F&W are a very good team and the lads showed just how good they are now by matching them all over the pitch and by nicking the goal when we were on top.

Today's result was good for us to try and put a bit of pressure on the league leaders they are still 5 points clear of us but a loss today would have put us out of contention. The win today came from sheer hard work from the boys and taking the chance when it came, They should all be proud of how they played today from back to front and it was hard to pick a MOM but Bem just edged it with his hard work and running the defence ragged.

F&W are still favourites to win the league but today showed that the boys shouldn't fear anyone in the league and if they play like they did today they will be hard to beat.

Well done lads a great performance
