Away league match played on 21 February 2009.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

The second week in a row with a warm sunny morning for the long away trip to Bury especially if you have George full of red bull in your van for the journey.

Sporting got the KO and were straight on the attack and were clean through inside 30 seconds but a good save on the edge of the area denied sporting the perfect start, the save left Jack on the floor grabbing hold of the wrong balls but it was his turn to take 1 for the team this week.

It proved to be a busy opening couple of minutes with Sporting winning a free kick and John having a talking to from the ref. As in a lot of recent games the Sporting team were well up for the game and were looking good going forward and the Sax boys were struggling to stay with them, Rossi fouled a player on the edge of the Area which luckily for us came to nothing and from the kick out by Jack we started to play some football and get the ball down on the pitch Ollie played a good ball in to Ed who you would usually put money on to score from inside the area but it went just wide this time. The Sax boys were now playing well and Tom at right back played some really good football which ended up with the Sporting keeper having to make a save from a Sax shot. On 8 mins the ball came to Ed and he played a lovely little ball to Rossi who put it past the keeper to make it 0-1. Rossi was back in the action again and looking like he was about to get the 2nd he put the ball wide much to the Sporting keepers relief, John had been spoken to again by the ref and was told that no more or it would be a yellow so I thought that it would be enough of a warning to keep quiet and do what he does best. The defence were working hard to keep the Sporting attack at bay and Tom made a great interception on 13 to deny another chance, with Ollie playing well on the left and Finchy and Kris in the middle it is a very strong back line that protect Jack well most of the time. Sax won a free kick on 17 and with Ed lining up for a shot it looked like it was going to dip in but it dipped a bit too late and went over the bar, Sporting kept coming at us and Fish and Kyle worked hard in front of the defence to keep them out that has become a thing of a lot of recent games with Fish doing loads of work that goes unnoticed by some but is always spoke about by us on the touchline. Sax won a corner on 21 and John put in a great ball which Sam making his debut for us flicked on for Kyle to continue his great scoring form of recent games 0-2. On 26 Sax got another corner and again John put in a great ball which Sam headed in to the net unmarked a great way to mark his return to the team 0-3. Sporting had another chance in the 28th min but with the goal at his mercy the Sporting striker somehow put the ball over the bar. In the closing minutes of the half John committed a foul on a Sporting player which would normally be just a free kick but something was said to the ref and he had no choice but to show John a yellow which resulted in him being taken off the pitch which is a shame as a player of John’s ability should not need to get involved in anything like that and I hope that he can learn from this for the teams sake as well as his own. George was sent on for the last minute of the half and it finished Sporting 0-3 Sax.

2ND half

The half started with all the play in midfield with Kyle and fish doing really well but if the Sporting attack got through the back 4 done well to keep them out with Kris and Finchy winning tackles in the middle and looking to play the ball out wide to Tom or Ollie to start another attack. On 42 Rossi got the ball in our own half and danced around about 4 players before sticking the ball past the keeper to make it 0-4, Sam was looking very tired in the 2nd half and he done well to keep going as he has not played for a while and he will soon get back to full fitness if he keeps trying hard in training and games. Some of the Sax boys were wanting a bit too much time on the ball and this was punished by Sporting on 59 when they won the ball in midfield and with no tackles going in the ball was in the back of the net with Jack having a right go at the players in front of him. 2 mins later another corner another goal with Finchy getting this 1 and running straight over to wish Karl a happy birthday a great way to celebrate a goal. With players looking tired the team was moved around a bit George went up front Tom was put up to right Mid to use his energy there and Sam dropped back to centre back with Kris going to right back Ollie was doing well at left back and was left were he was, Ed played all over the front line today and it was just not his day with the ball refusing to cross the line more than once on another day he would have had 3. A ball was played into the Sax box and Jack chose to kick when he could have picked it up the ball went to a Sporting player who shot from 40 yards and it looped back over Jacks head to make it 2-5 Jack can shout as much as he likes but it is not always just the defence’s fault. The goal gave sporting a lift and Sax were 2nd best for a few minutes but we saw the game out to take another 3 points.

We need to take our excellent training play and warm up play into game as we would be untouchable if we could do that. Well done to the boys today who had to play out of position for at least some of the game, Martlesham again next week and we will need to be a better team if we are to beat them again and I know we can be. St Johns lost today which means we are now 11 points clear but we have played 1 more game we need to keep it going until the end of the season if we want to go unbeaten but I am sure that with a great effort we can keep going and win the league which on our overall play we deserve.
