Sax v Kirton

The game today was played on a morning that started OK but by the end of the game it was wet and cold. It was good to see that some of the lads team spirit had came back as it seems to have been missing for a few weeks but the lads all seemed up for the game today and were having a laugh before the arm up.

The game started well for the boys and they got straight at the Kirton players and put them under pressure, it only took 4 minutes for the 1st goal Rossi was put through by Fish and gave the keeper no chance. Kirton had a little spell of pressure and from a corner Jack dropped the ball but Fish popped up again to clear the ball and the danger. The Sax lads were not backing out of any challenges but this meant we were giving free kicks away and in 1 of these challenges Sam got another injury to his knee fortunately nothing serious this time. On 22 Ed extended the lead after he had been put through by Ollie and another 1 on 1 went the Sax way. On 25 Fish made the keeper work after he struck a shot well from the edge of the area. Last week we had a training session where Tim and Brian worked on corners we got our 1st one in the 32nd minute and a chance to see if the lessons had been learned. Arron delivered a ball straight on to Luke's head and it looped over the keeper to make it 3 – 0 the perfect training ground routine. On 33 Ryan had the next chance but his chip that beat the keeper grazed off the bar and out for a goal kick. On 36 Kirton had another free kick Jack came out to claim it but fell awkwardly and hurt his ribs but no permanent damage and he carried on. Ryan completed the scoring after Ed squared the ball to him in the box and it went in off Ryan's shin to finish the half well and bring the lads in with their heads held high.

Halt time Sax Sports 4-0 Kirton

The 2nd half started with Kirton having the 1st sight at goal but Jack came out to clear up the danger, on 45 Sax got a free kick inside their own half and Jack stepped up to take it and if it was on target it would have gone in as the keeper was beaten all ends up. The lads were playing some great football and showing glimpses of what they can do if they apply themselves, 1 move started at the back and played all down the left with 1 touch football but we couldn't finish the move. Rossi was reintroduced in to the game and after some wise words in his ear from a Mr H Green went out and within a minute got the ball on the left beat 3 players and put a shot in to the top corner giving the keeper no chance. 3 minutes later Rossi was at it again but he was brought down in the box he picked himself up and smashed the penalty in to complete his hat-trick. Ed got his 2nd of the game after John put him through and he made sure with a shot that would have broke the keepers hand if he had been able to get to it. Fish thought that he had got his goal at last with a great strike that went over the keeper and in to the net but it was ruled out for offside, a strange decision but we have to live with them.

The game today showed what the boys can do if they play as a team and in patches they looked very good again, Rossi and Ed are now both on 19 with Ryan 1 goal behind them 56 goals from 3 players is a great return and we still have 5 games to go. We finished with no major injuries for a change Sam's Knee will heal quickly and Jack has got bruised ribs and a twisted sock so he will be OK. We made a lot more changes than we normally would in a game but it was the sort of game we can make changes in and not worry too much next week will be a tougher test when Ipswich Athletic visit but if the lads play to the best of their ability they will give them a tough game.
